wow the first day when i made jean lafette national park

Jean layfette Terrance

As a class we went on a field trip to jean lafette national park. It was a fun experience but also an experience i will never forget.i had a lot of fun learning about the wet lands and what they do for us.
while there the class met this lady or ranger Amy. she was most likely from New York were she help preserve history at the statue of liberty. Most likely thats why preserve our wet lands in Louisiana means a lot to her. Did you no our wetland save us from natural disasters, well i didn't until this field trip. I was taught a lot of things there. We went on different trails, and discovered different things. In our time there we went dip netting. If dip netting was a sport i would lose. Dip netting is were you put you net in the water and try to get animals. Because of the fact that it was cold i guess thats why i didn't catch much. Also because the noise we really didn't catch much. I went there with nothing and came out with knowledge and questions, such as would john layfette be considered good or bad? Or what could i do to help our wetlands? so going there would be a great experience. Terrance K.

Jean Lafitte National Park

This is Lindsey and Malquenisha we both went on the field trip to Jean Lafitte National Park. Ranger Ami helped us around the park, she very cool.We had alot of fun walking the Coquille trails and looking at the different plants, insects, and animals, such as spanish moss, palmettos, and fungi. We learned alot about the wetlands and how we're losing them. And we also learned that the wetlands help Louisiana by making hurricanes weaker. On the trip we caught crawfish, shrimp, leeches, and other creatures. This experience was educational and amazing!

Hi my name is Abe.I went on a field trip to the Jean Lafitte National Park.It was fun we got to catch shrimp and crawfish. We also got to learn how the wetlands have an effect in louisiana. It help Louisiana with hurricanes, they make the hurricanes weaker. It was a great experience.I think you should go too.

Harris at the Jean Lafitte National Park

At the Jean Lafitte National Park, Ranger Ami talked about the animals and their habitat. Ranger Ami said that most of the animals would not come out because of the cool weather. Ranger Ami also told us not to talk so loud because the animals would not come out they would just run away. When it was time go on the Coquille Trail we saw many Cypress Trees, Palmettos, Fungi/ Algae, and Spanish Moss. The animals we saw were bird dead and alive, snake skins, snake holes, and a baby alligator. When we got back where we started Ranger Ami told us to go get a bucket, a net, and a pair of gloves so we can go water dipping. Many of the students caught leeches, shrimp but my group caught a baby crawfish. Mrs.Brewington, our librarian told us to put it back but we did not want to do it. When it was time to go we all wanted to stay a little while longer but we had to come back to our school T.H. Harris Middle School.

My day at Jean Laffitte National Historic Park was not what I expected. We started the day by going into something they called the Education Building. When we stepped inside, we took all sat in seats that circled a small stage that ranger Ami stood on. She spoke of how the wetlands effect Louisiana and how they are dissapearing. Once she stopped speaking, our teachers went split us up in two groups. One group went on a trail known as the Coquille Trail. My group was all divided into 3 people groups. Each group got one Bucket, one glove, and one net. We walked to an area near water. Each person had an object I mentioned. The activity was: one person scooped the water with the net, one persone picked out the fish , and one person put it in a bucket. It was pretty intresting how we caught fish such as Shrimp, Crawfish, and Snails. When we finished that, we went on a trail where we saw different trees and plant which was pretty fun. I didn't think I had as much fun as I did.

Jean Lafitte National Park

I love taking field trips, so when my teacher announced that we were going on a field trip to Jean Lafitte National Park, i was really excited. Ranger Ami was very interesting. We went to the educational center, two trails, and dip netting. My favorite part was the dip netting. That's where we take a net, and a bucket and we had to dip the net in the water to find "life." I really wanted to find a craw fish, but my group found a couple of shrimp! I wasnt used to digging in dirty water, but i got in to it. On the Coquille Trail, we saw some animals, and lots of trees. It was cool. When we were in the educational center, ranger Ami was explaining to us, about how we should protect the environment, and keep it clean. She said we should keep it clean because its the animals home, and we wouldnt appreciate if the animals came in my house and trashed it, so why should we trash theirs. I really liked it there, I wouldn't mind taking another field trip there!

I had fun at the field trip to Jean Lafitte National Park. I learned about how important how is our marshes are to us. Ranger Ami shared with us that she worked at the Statue of Liberty. "That every important place has a story", she told us. We went net fishing and caught craw fish and bugs. It wasn't that fun at first since we couldn't catch anything. After we got quiet and were calm we started catching things. Then we walked on a trail and saw 6Th graders plant trees. We sat down at the end of the path and talked about how levees are a good thing for us but a bad thing for nature. I loved to see the little birds playing and chirping. That was a fun time with the class. It was a good way for us kids to understand nature. Thanks for reading. A.S.4

Dip Netting at Jean Lafitte National Park

When T.H Harris's eighth graders went to Jean Lafitte, my group went dip netting in the Bayou des Families. Each group had a clear bucket, a net, and a glove. You had to put a little bit of water into your bucket, move the leaves, and finally put the net into the water. You have to put the net in the water and move it very slow! We could not catch any living organisms in the Bayou, we were being loud. Our ranger, Ranger Ami, told us we have to very quiet so we can catch living things. After she told us that, we were all quiet and we starting catching baby crawfish. It was AMAZING! I had a few fears before i went. My fears were of the alligators, snakes, and BIG spider. After we went dip netting, we went on a small trail. When we were walking down the trail and we saw kids from Newman planting new trees. They are trying to help rebuild the Wetlands.

J.L.N.P. Adventure

I'm not a big fan of nature but I had an OK time at "Jean Lafitte National Park". First off when we arrived at the park when went to the educational center to talk with park ranger Ami about the importantance of the park. After we talked for about 20 minutes we jumped to the activities. Well the students that went were divided into two separate groups then the two large groups were split into smaller groups. The group i was in walked a trail called "Bayou des Families". On the trail i didn't see anything interesting but the activity we did had my attention. We did something called "Dip netting", its when you take a net and scoop it through the water and see if you can find some sort of living organism. Unfortunately for me and my group we didn't catch a thing. I think it had something to do with the whether i believe it was around 60 degrees. That pretty much describes the time i had at the park.

Maybe we'll go back around spring time when all the spiders and bugs come out. I wouldn't go on my own time because its just not something i would do but yea.

T.H.Harris and JLNP's Culture Project

A day at Jean Lafitte National park I would of never imagined of how much fun it would be. We began by going to hear what Park Ranger Ami had to speak about the park. She first explained how we are loosing our wetlands. Ami also explained how she worked at the Statue of Liberty, which she told stories about it. We were separated into two group. One went to net fishing and the other group went to look around to see the park. I went net fishing which was so much fun. First we got a plastic box, a net and a sheet of paper so we can write many of the different things we got or what we saw. We where on a mission to see who can catch the most living organisms. Many people were able to catch craw fish, small fish's and many other organisms of which we dont know of.

Field Trip to Jean Lafitte

On the field trip to Jean Lafitte National Park it was so much fun. I was scared though because of all the animals in the park. They had different kinds of animals like alligators, spiders, a lot of birds, and different other kinds of animals. Educational Center Ranger Ami talked to us about the animals, and trees. She said that the trees that were broken down in the wetland were from the hurricane and the horrible storms we had. Mrs. Brewington took us on Coquille Trail, the trail was very long. On the trail we saw three different birds and we video taped it. One of the birds we saw was laying on the ground dead. When we went fish netting with Ranger Ami she told us we had to be quite in order to catch something out of the water. We had to us nets and gloves in the water, we had to move the net very slowly so we would not scare the animals away. My friend Brigette caught a baby shimp.

On our trip to the Jean Lafitte National Park I was so afraid of all the animals you could see. At the Educational Center Ranger Ami talked to us about the trees at the park. She told us that all the broken trees in the wetland were part of helping protect us from horrible storms. We started to walk on the Conquille Trail, there are so many things you can see on the trail. We heard things moving in the water, and we even saw a huge spider. Ranger Ami told us that we needed to be very quite. When we were talking we could not see anything. We heard thing running away. When we were walking along the trail we saw a dead bird lying on the ground. We walked more and around the frog area we saw a Yellow Belly Sapsucker bird. We left the trail and went fish netting and we were quite that time. We caught leaches, baby shrimp , and baby crawfish.

Jean Lafitte National Park

I'm going to talk about the national park that I went to on a feild trip .While I was walking down the trail I saw a salamander that a 1st grader picked up. It was a long ride there and don't worry they have working bathrooms. They also have baby crawfish and baby shrimp in the water. It was also fun when we went on Coquille Trail. We even saw a copule of birds and also a dead bird. The park ranger, Ami said that all the trees there told. When Ami told us that she worked at the Statue of Liberty, she said that she was surprised that she saw a alligator. I don't know whybut I thought I was going to see a mongoose. The rangers job is to protect and preserve the park.

Nature in The Wild With Group#4

When we first got there Group#4 went to the Coquille trail.
while we were on the trail we seen no animals basically because
of the temperature. The temperature was cold so some
animals were hibernating and others were were getting warm.
The only animal we seen was a gray fluffy woodpecker and a dead bird laying
on the floor. We decided to pick the bird up and put it on the side of the
trail because it was in the middle of the trail. There were trees that were small,
tall, short, skiny, fat you name it and its there. We tried to look for Alligators but didnt
see none. In the begining of the trail the Ranger said that we will have a hard time
see an Alligator for the fact that the temperature is cold. When we were done with the
trail we went to get nets and a 1 ft. rectagle shaped bucket. We walked to the Bayou des
Families and dipped our nets into the swamp. There where different groups like Group#1,
Group#2, Group#3, Group#4, and Group#5. Some groups had a hard time because they where loud and wasnt patient. Group#3 cought a baby Crab and Group#4 in which i was in cought a
Leech. It was so much fun!. One of the groups let their net fall in the swamp when they where
dipping in to catch something but didnt because they let it slip out of their hands. Nobody
decided to pick it up from the swamp because they were scared they would fall in and an Alligator would eat them. So I Orlandy from Group#4 decided to get it. When i put my hand in the swamp it covered about 1 ft. of my arm. It felt really cold.

The Environment.

Our class went to Jean Lafitte National Park. It was the best educational place i've ever been too! It was extreamly fun! We went dip netting, we got into groups and got buckets and nets. We tried to find fish, crawfish, shrimp, and just living things. We learned how if we would be quiet the animals wouldn't be scared and would actually come out and we could catch them. Then we went on the nature trail, it was beautiful! The little kids were about to plant over 500 trees. Ranger Ami explained how the wetlands are really important and how we should save them and she told us how trees help the envirnment. I would totally go back to the park. The animals wern't really outside because of the climate, it was very cold outside. Me and my friends enjoyed that place very much. I reccomend people go to this place and explore. Even though it was really cold outside and we got our hands dirty it was worth going.

Recently My School and I went on a field trip to Jean Lafitte National Park, it was such a blast. We met Ranger Ami, she told us how every tree has a story, and how they protect our city. We went on Coquille Trail there, we saw a bunch of cypress trees, that were uprooted or had Spanish moss on them, patches of cattails, and all kinds of flowers. Also we seen all different types of birds and animals like woodpeckers, salamanders, and a huge lizard. After we went on Coquille Trail, we went dip netting in Bayou Des Families, it was so fun! A few of us found leeches, baby shrimp, and baby crawfish. One of our group members was whistling to get the birds to chirp and the birds were singing back, pecking, and just being birds. You should go there atleast once in your lifetime you'll have a blast.

Jean Lafitte National Park Coquille Trail

I like adventures, and Jean Lafitte National Park is an adventurous place to explore. I've been to lots of national parks and this is the best park that I've ever been to. Ranger Ami is a good nature teacher. She knows a lot of the things about the park. She gave us a long and interesting explanation about the history of the park. The Coquille Trail is long, but very adventures. My group took pictures of trees plants and animals. The trail had like pit stops on each corner that gave explanations of that specific part of the trail. We didnt get to see aligators because we didn't get to finish the trail. After the Coquille Trail we went back to the National Park's headquarters. We recieved a bucket and a rubber glove, then we went to the Bayou des families. We had to scoop of the things in the water.I only caught plants and mud. Then after that we put all the stuff back and finished the day with McDonalds.

Jean Laffite National Park, Bayou des Familes, and the Coquille Trail

I am a nature freak, so when I heard that we were going to Jean Lafitte National Park I was very excited. Unfortunately I was in one of the loudest groups ever so while I was whispering to them telling them to be quite I saw nothing. I was mad because Ranger Ami told them to be quite or we wouldn't see any thing, but of course my group being 14 year old Know-It-All's said "Yeah right." I was like "just shut up and if your lucky we haven't scared off half the Forest by now." Luckily I was smart enough to get my group to stay behind the rest of the group. I actually saw 2 Woodpeckers, a salamander, a HUGE lizard, Spanish Moss, weird flowers, and we heard a few birds singing. One of our group members actually started whistling and attracted a few birds. When we first got to the Park Ranger Ami took us to the Educational building to tell us about the park. No one except me took her seriously though, i could tell, but i was very excited so i couldn't help but shut up and listen. She tried telling us how to go about looking at the Wildlife without disturbing any thing. Then we went to the Coquille Trail with Mrs.Brewington to see the animals. I took out my personal camera and took pictures of everything. The first thing I saw that I took a picture of was the Spanish Moss on an Old Cypress tree that surprisingly withstood Katrina and Gustav. It took us about 20 min. to get through the trail. Then we went to the Dock to go Dip netting. When we got to the dock i was upset because we didn't catch any thing but lots of other people caught baby Shrimp, Leeches, and even a Crawfish!!! So after all this was done we went to McDonald's and we got to eat. I think that this was a great Field Trip and I am looking forward to going back in a few months.

Coquille Trail at Jean Lafitte National Park.

My school, T.H.Harris went on a field trip to Jean Lafitte National Park.
When we first got there, we went into the park's educational center. The park ranger, Ranger Ami was telling us about the animals, the surrounding and the fact that we were in the animals home. She also explained that we should treat the environment with respect and keep our voices down. After, she explained what the forest does for the city and animals, and what she does to preserve the wetlands. Ranger Ami told us about how she worked at the Statue of Liberty and there she explained to groups of people the history of the Statue, and how she preserve the animals around it. After she explained everything to us.

My group went on the Coquille Trail. The trail was long and very informational about the area that you were in. While walking on the trail we seen a few animals. We mostly seen the different kinds or trees. We did she some birds, but since it was winter, the animals didn't really like the cold so they were hiding. Also Ranger Ami kept reminding us to keep quit so the animals that were out, wouldn't go and hide. I thought the trail and the entire experience was very nice. And it's not everyday that you get to come close with some many different types of trees, birds, animals.Just being in the type of surrounding was very fun to be out in nature like that. I really enjoyed the trip. And I would go back again.

Our Trip to Jean Lafitte National Park

Our Trip to Jean Lafitte National Park

My school, T.H Harris, went on a social studies field trip with our teacher Mrs. Lusignan and our librarian, Ms. Brewington. Ranger Ami talked to us about the history about the park and what they do to protect it. She worked at the Statue of Liberty to help preserve it so the history would't be lost.

The trial that my group went on was Coquille Trial. We saw many different types of plants and were hoping to see more animals, but most weren't out because of the weather. We took many pictures and videos narrating what we were seeing. After we explored the trail, we went dip netting in Bayou des Families. Each group got a clear bucket, net, and a glove. We used a net to catch crawfish, shrimp, fish, etc. Afterwards, we put everything that we caught back into the water. We did many interesting things, and I am hoping to back again soon!

Would you like to know how my trip was when i went to Jean Lafitte National Park?
My trip at Jean Lafitte National Park was really interesting! Before we went on the tour, we all sat in a room while Ranger Ami talked to us about what to do and what not to do at the park. While she was talking there was a big bug on the bench behind her. She talked about the bug that was on the bench, she examined the bug and she said she didnt really notice what kind it was. She talked about her past job at the Statue Of Liberty where she worked. She also told us she had to help preserve the Statue Of Liberty so its history is not lost. Ranger Ami also told us that we have to try and help take care of Jean Lafitte National Park so that the history is not lost.

T.H.Harris and Jean Lafitte National Park

My first visit to Jean Lafitte National Park was with my 8th grade social studies class. We went on the Bayou des families to do the net dipping. We were split up in groups of two and i was in a group with Tiffany. The park Ranger Ami told us to go to a spot where you see alot of leaves are because you will catch more things. She also told us to stay quiet are the animals will run away. We had to put some water in the bucket that Ranger Ami provied for us to put the things we catch in the bucket, and put on the glove she gave us to pick up the things in the net . I had to dip the net into the water slow and drag the net slow so the animals don't swim away. When I pulled up the net they had all kinds of fishes, and shrimps in my net they were jumping in the net so i had to pick them up out of the net to put them in the bucket. I didn't put every thing in the bucket because I tried to keep the water clean to see the fishes. I was kind of scared wehn we first went out there because I thought I was going to fall in the water but it was fun. When we left the Bayou des families Ranger Ami lead the class to a small trail. And as we were walking down there we saw the younger kids planting trees in the park, they planted 600 trees. I thought it was really cool how they got to plant trees in the park. That was a very cool they i never thought that it would be that fun but it was and Iwill never forget that day. L.T. 4TH PERIOD

Harris

My Harris classmates and I went to Jean Lafitte National Park, and we had a great time. We were split up into many groups, my group was Bre'Anna, Derrion, Lindsey, Larrelle And Me Accaicia. When we first got there we went to this round building and had a talk with the park ranger Ami. She was talking about the animals and how we're helping the ecosystems by being there. A lot of the students finally realized that we were going to see real live animals. By there being a lot of trees there, it helps during hurricanes so the winds won't be so strongs. They don't hurt animals they save them and help there environment and by us being there we helped a lot.
The first thing my group went to was the Coquille Trail it was very instresting. We saw many differrent things such as trees, birds, and historic things. Before you go on the trail you have to be really quiet so you won't scare the animals. We saw a big tree, I think it was an Oak tree. In the middle of the trial we saw this beautiful bird on a tree, we tried so hard not to scare it away but we did sadly. A few minutes down the trial we saw a dead Bluebird, so we got a leaf and pushed it to the side. We also saw many historic things, talking about what was there before the Jean Lafitte was. Close to the end we stopped at this lake were they had many signs sayin beware you may see alligators. Then we walked back to the beggining of the trial and got on the bus and went to the round building.
After the Coquille Trial, we to the Bayou des Families to dip net. We were being really loud and all the fish started swimming away. We all finally hushed our mouths and started dipping our nets in nasty water. I had the bucket, Bre'Anna had the glove and Larelle had the net. The first time we dipped the net we had a leach, it was very weird because, it kept stretching out then going back to it's regular size. The second time we went to the other side of the dock to see if we would catch something, and we caught a baby crawfish. It was a really nice trip, I would really like to go back again. -4A.H.

The Wild Life Of Louisiana

My time at Jean Lafitte National Park was pretty fun. I had a very exciting time. With all of the wonderful thing i saw although i did want to see an alligator. Although i didn't see alligators because it was winter i did see birds that looked very intriguinig ther are some birds that i never knew even lived in Louisiana like cardinals and blue jays. Those types of birds are very special and thier names really make you wonder how they got there names.

On our trip to Jean Laffite National Park we got to see the trees, plants, and we got to learn alot of things about the park it's self. The first thing we did when we got to the park was went to the educational center. We met Ranger Ami, and she told us a little bit about herself. She told us about before coming to Jean Laffite she worked at the Statue of Liberty. Her job there was to preserve the structure and it's beauty. She came to Jean Laffite National Park from the city, a dramatic change from city to woods. She told us about how the trees help stop winds and rain from coming into the city and destroying us. She finished by saying all of the fallen trees in the park had a story. She also reminded us that it was winter and we might not see as many animals, but that if we were quiet enough we might get to see a few. So we finally got on the trail, and i thought it was beautiful. There were so many different kinds of plants and trees. The landscape was beautiful. We went about the trail taking pictures, and having fun. Though we didnt see many animals we got to see a few birds and a salamander. While we were on the trail we didnt realize that the group of people we were with were ahead of us, so we had to race back to the bus before we got left behind. The next thing we did was go to the educational center, got some nets, and went out to the pond. Our goal was to find baby shrimp. We actully got to catch some and one person brought them home. So i can say that my experience at Jean Laffite was one worth remebering, and i recomend to anyone who wants to go there. I know T.H. Harris had a great time!

Harris at L.M.N.T

Two weeks ago we went on a very exciting field trip to Jean Lafitte national park.I was in a group with my fellow classmates Ozny Calderon,Cole Casey , Josh Burton, and Chris Fernandez. We were amazed by all the cool stuff we found. We saw many different types of trees;we also saw many birds like egrets and blue jays on the Cocquille trail. We were excited to see many different animals on the trail because it was cold and quiet and we did not expect anything but we were very amused .When we were done walking our path,we went back to the shelter and grabbed our nets and headed to the small lake.We did not know what we were doing so we just went along. Our ranger told us we can catch whatever we wanted. We were happy to hear that we could actually catch something. My group only caught mud and grass but we wereamazed by the group on side of us.They caught baby crawfish and leaches too. After We left the river we got on the bus and went to Mc.Donalds and finished our great 8th grade trip.

FIRST WE WENT DIPP NETTING AND WE CAUGHT A COUPLE OF BABY SHRIMP AND TADPOLES. THE WATER WAS PRETTY MURKY BUT WE WERE STILL ABLE TO CATCH THINGS IN THE WATER. WE LEARNED AND TALKED ABOUT THE DIFFRENT THINGS WETLANDS OFFER SUCH AS PROTECTION AND FOOD. THE TREES OF THE WETLANDS KEEP US AS A STATE AND PROTECT US AS FROM THE HURRICANE WINDS. OUR WETLANDS ARE REALLY IMPORTANT TO US AND WE NEED TO KEEP IT. THE WETLANDS GIVE US DELICIOUS FOOD. WE AS A STATE NEED TO SAVE THE WETLANDS AND TALK TO OUR COMMUNITY. IM HAPPY YALL INVITED US AND WE WOULD LOVE TO COME BACK. THANKSS.

We went to Jean Laffite National Park where we met Ranger Ami.She told us about the wetlands and what we could do to save the wetlands. We were the to help preserve the park. There were two diffrent groups and i was in the first group which went dip netting and my group caught baby fish, baby craw fish, baby shrimp, and snails. When our time was up some of the groups bought there creatures home in a plastic glove and others set them free.We went back to the place where we met.We cleaned our supplies and went on the Coquille Trail where we took many pictures of animals such as birds and bugs bugs. When we were done the trail we took some time to sit down and talk about the history of the park. Some of the history we talked about is who the park was named after, why it is here, what it does to help us,and what kind of lands there is at the park. Then when we had to leave we said bye and thank u to Ami the park ranger.

Being at Jean Lafitte national park was a memorable experience.First we pulled in and my first thoughts were wow its a nice day outside. Then we meet ranger Ami she knows a lot about the wetlands and wildlife. She has a very loud voice. She told us they were trying to perserve the enviorment and animals so she told us not to squish bugs or anything. She also told us that the trees help against hurricanes so they are also important. Then we went fishing, sort of we caught 2 shrimp or shrimps.
After that we went on a walk on a trail we had to be quiet so we woudnt scare off wildlife.I had a good time with my friends Aaron and stephen and hope to come back for a visit one day. Tyler M , 2nd period

was divided into several parts and i stopped with my group and we were taking pictures. most of the area was ruined by hurricane katrina.

T.H.Harris Project At Jean Lafitte National Park

My 2nd period social studies class went on a feild trip to Jean Lafitte National Park. First our teacher split us up in groups of 4 or 5. My group had 5 people and their names are Brittany, Marley, Travis,Marvine, and me.
The first thing that we did when we walked into the park ranger, Mrs. Ami, spoke to us little about the park. She told us about how the park is a home to the animals and if you take anything, you are destroying their home and where they live. New Orleans use to be covered in all trees and wet land. The trees also help stop the hurricanes and the bad storms from destoryng the land. Ranger Ami also said that each tree tells a story.
The first thing that our group did was take the trail. On the trail everybody had to stay quiet able to see or hear the animals that live their. The different kinds of plants are: Plam Palmeto, Moss, Dwarf Palmeto, and Cypress Tress. They did not have any animals come out because it was a little cold outside so some of the animals were probably hibernating. In the middle of the trail we saw a dead bird, alive birds, and a lizard. The trail that we went on was called Couqille Trail.
After we went on the trail we went Dip Netting. Our group cough a lot of shrimp. I had a lot of fun on this project Field trip. I would suggest you go their with your school and help them learn about Louisiana more.

When we got to Jean Lafitte National Park, we went into a place call the education center. There ranger Amy told us stuff about trees and animal. She told us that trees can help protect us from tropical storm and how they are home to the animals there.
After we finish talking Ranger took us to dip netting. There, we caught many crawfish and bugs. At first my partner and I couldn't find anything but after a while we found at least 7-10 crawfish and bugs. After we we finish dip netting we went back to the education center to go to the restroom and wait for the other group to come back and switch stuff with them. But, they didn't come back so just went ahead and went on the Coquille Trail.
There, we didn't see much but we talk about how each and every trees has a history behind it. After a while we went back to the education center and left for School.

As we came into Jean Lafitte National Park, I saw trees surrounding us. We went into the education center and talked about what we were going to do and see as we walked through Jean Lafitte National Park. The ranger Ami told us it is important for us to keep our hands to ourselves so we wouldn't hurt the animals inside of the park.As we wrapped it up with the conversation about what we were going to do we went on the Coquille Trail. We walked about forty minutes long through out the whole trail. It was important to keep quiet so that we wouldn't scare anyway of the animals inside of the park. As my team and I recorded all of what we were seeing the only animal we saw was an bird an alive one and an dead one. The plant and trees we saw cypress, plametos, fungi, tree with spanish moss, berrys, and mushrooms. I really had an great time but I would like to go back when its warm or hot so i could see more animals.

When T.H. Harris visited Jean Leffite National Park, the first thing I saw were all the old trees with moss, the old land, and little water passages. The first thing I thought was that it was beautiful. Then we listened to the ranger Ami talk all about how the land helps us from hurricanes and other natural disasters. Its hard to realize that just some land helps prevent your home and city from being destroyed. All around the park they were planting new tree"s because the old tree's are wearing out and falling over. We need to perseve the wetlands to halp us in the future. After we listened to the ranger Ami talk, we all went down to the river and we were being really queit because we didnt want to desterb the animals at rest. On the way to the river all we brought with us was a glove, net, and container. We caught some little fish like tadpoles, shimp, little craw fish, and more. It was a very fun educational experience, I would love to go back and learn more. I would also more than recomend this to others because it was a great experience for me and i know it would be for them too.

My experience at jlnp was amzing! I loved every second o it! First we went into this building with ranger Ami. She tould us about jlnp.I learned alot of things like cosatl reagion are slowly disapearing an animals that live their are being harmed beacause of it. Also that the trees at Jean Lafitte are very important because tehy slow down the hurricanes. After she tould us about other intersting things about Jean Lafitte we went dip netting. Where they gave us a glove, a net, and a small buket. We took those objects and went down to Bayou des Families where we used our nets an caught some animals that lived in the water. That was really fun! Some of us caught fish, crawfish, and shrimp. After that we went on a trail called the Coquille Trail. We saw all kinds of diffrent birds, bugs, and diffrent kinds of animals. This field trip was very7 intersting an fun! I loved it!

JLNP was very intresting. Exploreing and learning about out wetlands was really fun. Learning about how I can save the wetlands and prevent from destroying the coast was helpful. We went dip netting and found what living animals that are in are coastal region. I learned that the coastal region is dissapering each day littel, and the animals and plants and anything that is living in that coastal region are dissapearing along with the land. Everything in the coastal wildlife area matters without one thing somthing else would not exist, everything has a cycle to keep life going.

There's alligators, birds, and snakes. We took tons of pictures of animals and nature.

Welcome to our Blog!

The students at T. H. Harris Middle School are participating in a project with Jean Lafitte National Park. Students and teachers will create lessons about the history and culture of the Preserve area that can be shared with others via the NPS website and throughout Jefferson Parish. This blog contains some of the information gathered during the process. Join us as we discover Barataria.
